Contribution to Your Learning

Thinking About What’s Working and What I Can Improve

Throughout this course, I have actively embraced the opportunity to grow as a self-directed learner. My most significant improvement is in my mindset plan and learning manifesto, which I successfully created. I encapsulated my purpose and values for cultivating perseverance, resilience, and a learner’s mindset in online learning. The thing that’s working is that I can question my work and edit accordingly after getting feedback, so now the assignments are more polished. However, I know I can do better and be consistent at reading posts by my classmates early in the discussion, giving me more time to work with them.

I’ve also actively participated in our class group chat. We keep each other updated with due dates and tips and tricks for portfolio designs. I was even able to get into a Zoom call early in the year with a few others, and we were able to talk about the class.

Assignment

Revisions

The update to my growth mindset plan and learning manifesto was an eye-opener. My mindset roadmap had no real-world scenarios of how I would first teach a growth mindset. After receiving input from other classmates, I redesigned the plan, giving concrete steps. I tweaked my learning manifesto to include links between my principles and real-world digital learning best practices so my efforts were sanitized, inclusive, and concrete.

Meeting

Deadlines

I completed course activities and assignment deadlines, and my work was put out there for feedback and critique from peers and teachers. By planning everything with a specific timeline, I knew what to expect.

Completion of Course Materials

I had read and watched all the books, videos, and resources required to learn. For me, the most interesting one was Carol Dweck’s book Growth Mindset. The book stuck with me, not just as a teacher but as a student. Its ideas informed my change of mind plan and strengthened my sense that all students could develop and endure. For instance, I put some techniques from the book into my teaching and learning manifesto. Studying these materials made me better educated and able to contribute to discussions and homework.

Supporting Contributions

Leadership and Participation:
My activities in this course (5302) and class 5305 were both collaborative, and I was actively engaged in discussions so that we were working effectively. For instance, in 5305, our team did an early activity to create a video of a discussion. But, after our teacher had suggested otherwise, we found that the style wasn’t appropriate for collaborative discussions. So, as a team, we took heed of this, migrated to Canva, and began using the comment feature on Canva to make it a conversational experience. Not only was this change an improvement to the quality of our conversations, but it made me reflect on my skill in learning to modify and guide my group to make strategic adjustments for learning.

Course Forums and Collaboration:
I was also on the course forums all the time, posting relevant stuff in a timely manner across both courses. This is how 5305 conversations on Canva helped me give my colleagues critiques and learn new things that improved my work. I applied these collaborative capabilities to forum discussions in 5302 with research-based suggestions and case studies from my teaching practice. I used tools in the Growth Mindset book and from my classroom, for instance, in a class discussion about building resilience, so my input was theoretical and practical.

Additional Contributions:

I also provided some additional materials to tie concepts together from both courses. I posted, for instance, an article on digital tools such as Canva, which encourages collaborative learning, and there’s a good discussion about using these tools in our classes. I was also able to utilize WIX to create this portfolio and blog. These contributions showed that I was eager to support the learning of other students and invent a way to bridge content across courses.

Score Justification

I think that 95 is a good reflection of what I have been able to bring to this class. The learning manifesto and the growth mindset plan got excellent grades as I was devoted to high-quality work. These projects allowed me to think deeply about course content, self-examination, and practical strategies and showed that I was understanding. But I see where I could have been more consistent in my conversation participation. I contributed a lot when I commented, but in some cases, I commented once instead of the expected two. It is something I want to do better in the coming classes so that I am fully participating in the shared learning process.
