Contribution to My Learning and the Learning Community

Self-Assessment Score: 95

I am giving myself a score of 95 for this course because I believe I met all the key contributions and most of the supporting contributions. I stayed on top of deadlines, completed the readings and videos, contributed to my group, and revised my work based on feedback. At the same time, I recognize areas where I can improve, especially with making sure I follow assignment templates more closely, as seen in the feedback I received on my literature review.

What Worked Well

One of my biggest strengths in this course was staying organized and meeting deadlines. I kept up with the weekly readings, videos, and assignments and made sure to submit on time so that others could respond. I also participated actively in the course forums and in my collaboration group. I shared drafts of my work with my peers and provided feedback on theirs. I revised assignments after receiving input, and those revisions made my work stronger.

I also took ownership of my learning by connecting each assignment back to my innovation project, School Sphere. By using the Outline, Literature Review, and Action Research Plan as building blocks, I was able to keep my focus clear and consistent across the course. This helped me see how each piece fits into a bigger strategy.

What I Can Do Better

The feedback I received on my Literature Review reminded me of the importance of following instructions and templates carefully. My professor noted that while my ideas were strong, I missed specific required sections like “Definition of Topic” and “Types of Topic.” I also did not formally include a research question in the introduction, and my summary leaned too conversational. This was an important lesson for me. For the Action Research Plan, I corrected those mistakes by sticking closely to the template, breaking down each heading, and including ethics, participants, instruments, and a timeline. In the future, I will double and triple check my work against rubrics and templates before submission. I will also build in more time to revise after feedback instead of trying to finalize everything too quickly.

Contributions to the Learning Community

I engaged actively with my classmates through our weekly class meetings and discussion boards rather than a set core group. During meetings, I contributed to conversations, shared insights from my project, and asked questions that encouraged others to reflect more deeply on their work. In the discussion forums, I consistently posted on time so my peers could respond, and I made sure my posts connected readings to real classroom practice with APA citations when required.

I also replied to peers’ posts to offer encouragement and constructive feedback. For example, I shared suggestions for strengthening literature reviews and commented on ways others could connect their innovation projects to practice. While I did not have a designated small group, these exchanges across the class provided me with valuable feedback and gave me opportunities to support my peers’ growth as well.

Final Reflection

Overall, I am proud of the work I produced and the way I contributed to the learning community. I showed that I can be a self-directed learner by completing the course requirements, engaging with peers, and revising based on feedback. At the same time, I know I can improve by carefully following assignment templates and building in more revision time.

This course helped me strengthen both my project and my ability to assess my own work. As Fink (2013) reminds us, students must learn how to evaluate the quality of their own work in order to be powerful performers and lifelong learners. I believe this course gave me that opportunity, and I will carry these lessons forward into future courses and into my professional practice.
